Minoru Miki was born in Tokushima, Japan in 1930 and graduated from Tokyo National University of Music as a composition major. He founded Pro Musica Nipponia in 1964 and served as Artistic Director for 20 years, and as a composer he has a vast oeuvre of works. His cooperation with Keiko Abe, and later the Safri Duo has lead to some very important works for marimba. Works dedicated to Keiko Abe are:Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra, Marimba Spiritual, and Time for Marimba. They are all considered to be “classics” among the marimba repertoire. For the Safri Duo he wrote the Z-Concerto.
