WORKSHOP 1

Incorporating Tone & Colours in Performance by Matthew Lau

Matthew Lau looks at how to improve tone and colours within tuned percussion performance. This looks at both standard and contemporary performance on marimba, vibraphone and xylophone. Including looking at selection of mallets and pedalling techniques at the vibraphone.

WORKSHOP 2

Group Performance by Owen Gunnell

Owen Gunnell looks at how to develop your warmup with an insight to technical exercises that could help transform your performances. This session will also look at how to develop your reading of notation and howto improvise.

WORKSHOP 3

Effortless and relaxed playing through yoga alignment knowledge

Muscle tensions, aches, pains and soreness are no strangers to any musicians, and percussionists are no exception. In our percussion education, we have been told to relax our hands and put in the hours in our practices with structured sessions and various drills. This session invites participants to explore these alignment cues and stretches together, and Matthew will share his personal favourite poses targeting certain areas that percussionists have always feel tight and sore.

Spencer Marimba Techniques: Relaxed Focus and the Mind Body Connection
