Wilhelm Tell, known in the United States as William Tell, is the last opera by Gioacchino Rossini, telling the story of a 15th-century Swiss folk hero who had to shoot an arrow off of his own son’s head to avoid execution. The overture from this opera is one of the most widely recognized classical pieces.
