Underwater Adventure is written for a 4.3-octave marimba. The piece is fairly simple, but it provides certain challenges for the performer.
This piece depicts a being riding the waves of the ocean. At first, the waves are small and pleasant, breaking free to a soft melody in which the being is at peace. As soon as this happens, a bolt of lightning wakes the being from sleep, and unpredictable winds start to swirl it around. The waves grow and grow and become more vigorous and intense. The being is tossed from wave to wave. Eventually the waves grow to immense intensity and force it completely underwater, a completely new experience to the being. The being spends some time exploring this new world and finds comfort in the calm underwater environment. The being has found its new home.
