They May Be Listening gives a furtive, secret agent vibe as it weaves in and out of layers and utilizes whispering by the players throughout. Each mallet instrument is paired with a snare drum that intermittently shares its entrances and stickings, while rhythmic ideas are split across the ensemble, adding both a visual element and antiphonal sound to the piece.
