Description
The Hula Blues, written by John Avery Noble with lyrics by Sonny Cunha, was first published in 1920 by Forster Music Publisher, Inc. An early example of the popular genre of Hawaiian songs, it was recorded by many groups, including the Green Brothers’ Novelty Band (Brunswick #2065, 1920). On this recording the ensemble featured trumpet, trombone, tuba, piano and two xylophones (played by Joe and George Hamilton Green). This arrangement, by Yurika Kimura, is based on the musical structure of the Green Brothers’ recording, with reference to the original sheet music. The xylophone part incorporates variations composed by Bob Becker.
