Description
Sonata #1 was written in 1970 by Cirone following a six-year period of intense study under Saul Goodman.
The work begins with a Maestoso piano statement that establishes the mood for the introduction. A similar timpani declaration follows right away.
The Allegro agitato is a whimsical jaunt through varied meters, but the piano’s compound harmonies give the piece more depth. As the timpani and piano alternate roles as soloist and accompanist, the Allegro gets progressively slower and heavier.
Saul Goodman will always be the greatest virtuoso, but for most of us, it is simply a dream. The unison rhythms in the final section of the Sonata symbolize the hope that one day we may be one with the master!
