Runaround by Paul Williams

RUNAROUND was written in 2001 for the Ferndown Percussion Ensemble.
The piece starts with the drum kit laying down a groove underneath a duet between
timpani and tom-toms that play a semiquaver riff that “runs around” the drums.
This is followed by a solo section for each performer-tom-toms, drumkit then timpani.
The middle section of the work utilizes wood and rim sounds before the opening groove
makes a rousing return to finish the piece.
