Description

The Latin Percussion LP208 Vibra Slap was originally conceived as a durable replacement for the original delicate rattling horse jawbone. It is an essential instrument for any percussionist. The sound is created when the ball end is struck against the palm of the hand. Wood versions like the Latin Percussion LP208 Vibra Slap have warm, crisp tones while metal versions produce a clatter with greater attack and longer sustain.

About Latin Percussion

From the beginning, LP®’s philosophy has been based on listening to artists and perceiving their needs. From this, they develop instruments according to their specifications and in close collaboration.

And these names must be mentioned.

The upper class of Latin Percussion gathers signature models of world-famous musicians in unrivalled quality and inimitable individuality. From the choice of wood to the sound shaping and finish-design, these instruments reflect the spirit of their namesakes. No one knows better what good sound means.

For them: no compromises. Only LP®.

History

Professional and amateur musicians around the globe have valued LATIN PERCUSSION instruments for decades as the finest percussion instruments in the world.

The company’s history began in 1956 with Martin Cohen, a young engineer from the Bronx who discovered his love of Latin music in the jazz clubs of New York. He was so captivated by the sound and energy of these rhythms that he got his own bongos. This failed due to trade embargoes that made it impossible to import high-quality instruments from Cuba at the time. Without further ado, Cohen used his technical know-how to research and develop his own. The result soon became known as “the best bongos the world has ever seen.”

A few years later, in 1964, he founded LATIN PERCUSSION (LP) and began supplying bongos, cowbells and other instruments to musicians in New York’s Latin nightclubs, asking for their opinions. This close connection and the exchange of experiences with the artists* of the Latin music scene contributed and still contributes significantly to the success story of the LP brand. To this day, they are an integral part of the company’s philosophy: the demands of the musicians come first.
