Karnataka by Emmanuel Sejourne

Karnataka is a state located in the South of India. I chose this name for two reasons: On the one hand, for the simple phonetic and syllabic consonance of the name: Kar-na-ta-ka… it’s so rhythmic and energetic.

On the other hand, for the musical reference of India by the use of table and certain rhythmic signals, without being as complex as the Mindy Ti-hais. The rhythms and colous within the piece are sometimes gradually transformed and juxtaposed with the accompanying audio track. The track should not be considered as something fixed and rigid (a musical straitjacket, if you will), but rather as an ensemble with which one dialogues and can improvise alongside.
