Gymnopedie is a vibraphone arrangement of one of Satie’s most treasured works for piano. The arrangement adheres to the original rather closely, although the key has been changed from D to F to better accommodate the range of a standard vibraphone. It’s also a deceptively tricky study in mallet dampening and requires sensitivity and precision in order to bring out the melody with clear presence over the harmony.
