Essential Vibes Solos is a collection of solo transcriptions designed to honor the musicians that contributed to the legacy of jazz vibraphone in its earliest years.  Encompassing a range of difficulty levels, this book is a meaningful resource for vibraphonists at any stage of playing.

The book serves two functions. The first is a collection of fantastic solos by iconic vibraphonists. The majority of these solos were born during the critical early years of the intrument’s development across decades and styles, segregation and civil rights, and industry changes in everything from radio airplay to global transportation for concerts. These transcriptions represent the very evolution of the vibraphone leading up to the expansion into Jazz Fusion. David Friedman’s recent solos, reharmonizing two standards from the 1920’s, are a refreshing and perfect endcap to the collection.
