Distractions is a Carnival-style tune for steel band comprised of high energy, challenging technical demands and fun, catchy melodies. Its up-tempo nature is reminiscent of the Panorama performances one might hear during Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago, but with a twist. It features a jazzy, compound meter metric modulation that springs forward into a driving Afro-Cuban groove midway through the piece. Written for and performed by the West Virginia University Steel Drum Ensemble, Distractions promises an exciting opening or closing statement for mature steel band groups.
This piece comes as a full, bound score and includes a CD-ROM containing a live audio recording and all individual parts available for printing.
