Program Notes
Dance of the Toy Regiment was composed by by Joe Green & Nathaniel Shilkret in the early 1920s, published in 1925 by the Leedy Manufacturing Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, and recorded in 1926, with Soloist Joe Green and the Green Brothers Novelty Band. Originally written for xylophone and piano, it was later scored for xylophone and a nine-piece orchestra. Dance of the Toy Regiment was recorded by five record labels including Victor, Columbia, Brunswick and Edison companies. Each recording featured a slightly different orchestration and xylophone solo improvisation. This arrangement is a fusion of the original xylophone & piano version and two of the orchestrations found on recordings.
