Crazy Army Variations by Chris Coltman is based on a well-known conventional rudimental snare solo written in 1934 by the renowned drummer and teacher Ed Lemley. Numerous musicians and composers have frequently used Lemley’s original solo. In Crazy Army versions, the original rounded binary solo is first described before nine versions are created using various rudiments from American and Swiss backgrounds.
