These 3 solos were written for thee advancing percussionist to ehnace solo repertoire post grade 8. They are intended to enhance performance skills, whilst adding a degree of technical difficulty.
Pause For Thought – The performer needs to be able to control the roll and dynamics. Keep the quaver pulse clear in mind, whilst knowing where the open rim shot is on the drum! The development of the bounced double is explored towards the end.
Nanny’goes Rock – is a nod to the Afro-Cuban ‘Nanigo’ groove which closes this piece. Again, control of dynamics and tempo are explored in the opening and cadenza passages.
St. Michael’s Peel – for 4 pedal timpani is written in 3 movements with contrasting styles and technical demands, allowing great fun for performance and audience!
All 3 pieces are listed on the London College of Music’s DipLCM Repertoire list.
