Immigrant Song (2017) is a 5.0 octave marimba solo dedicated to my mother, Rosie Trevino. She was born and raised in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. when she was a teenager. She would have been considered a “low-skilled, non-English speaker” in today’s current immigration agenda. In the 30+ years since arriving to the U.S., she’s become a small business owner, put me through college, and speaks better English than some of the highest ranking officials in our government… She is the quintessential American-dream story and I’m so proud of her. I hope you like your song, mamà.
