Hora Staccato by Gregoras Dinucu and Jascha Heifetz, arranged by Morris Goldenberg, is a rather unique piece of xylophone literature – it’s a solo with piano accompaniment that travels to some unexpected areas. Starting off as a very western-sounding piece of music, this very quick xylophone solo eventually begins to use many different scales and modes that come from places like Romania, giving it an exotic flair that shows up out of the blue. Challenging due to it’s fast pace and healthy use of ornamentation, this xylophone solo could fit on any advanced high school or college recital.
