Over the years, Thomas has had many students that enjoyed learning 4-mallet technique but could not connect with the “classical” music they were playing because, like Thomas, the only music they listened to at that age was pop/rock music. In this set of three pieces, Thomas tried to capture the harmonic language of pop music and blend it with elements of the modern classical marimba repertoire. Throughout the set of three pieces, the technique and musical material of each becomes more complex and challenging while maintaining its connection with the pop music that inspired them. Whether as a whole set or on their own, these pieces would be ideal for contests or recitals.
