Diptych No. 4 is a duo for marimba and percussionist. Gordon Stout (percussion) and Leigh Howard Stevens (marimba) performed the world Premiere in 1986. A small but widely varied set up of tom-tom, bongos, hi-hat, splash cymbal, cow bells, temple blocks and glock, forms a colorful complementary accompaniment, counterpoint and commentary on and for the marimba part. As with all of Gordon’s Diptych works, the work is in a highly contrasting two-part form.
