816 is a warm-up designed to develop the beginning and intermediate percussionist. It starts off as an 8-on-a-hand exercise and builds gradually to an accent-tap call-and-response variation that isolates each hand. The last two measures are a natural sticking accent pattern to help the percussion section lock in timing and groove.
The introduction of Crush Street starts off with a huge unison intro. A subtle groove then begins and develops throughout the middle of the cadence by layering parts over two measures. The cadence then comes to a close with the recapitulation of the introduction.
