ARKEIMA PERCUSSION QUARTET

Arkeima Percussion Quartet is formed by Andrea Domínguez, Manuel Estop, Israel Jiménez and Veronica Cagigao. The inspiration and motivation of the collective is to bring to a wider audience musical works focusing on the array of percussion instruments. Seen as a natural step progression from their undergraduate program of study, the aspiration is to have the Quartet develop into a professional commitment over the longer term.

The group share a history having worked together in the Percussion Group of the Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife under the tutelage of Juan Francisco Diaz. This association found them accompanying the British duo Maraca2 at the IV Festival of Contemporary Music of Tenerife FMUC (2013). This occasioned the premier in Spain of the composition Espiritu Libre. They have also performed with world-renowned percussionist Igor Lesnik at the International Percussion Ensemble Week (IPEW) in Croatia.

Reflecting the success of the Quartet as a cohesive performance group, it achieved Second Prize in the Percussion Quartet competition at the First Taiwan International Percussion Convention Competition in May 2017. This lead to the Quartet being invited to perform at the prestigious National Concert Hall of Taiwan in the TIPCC Winners Concert.

In November of the same year, the group also participated as finalists in the V International Chamber Music Competition “Percute”, held in Catarroja (Valencia, Spain), winning the First Prize in their category.

In addition to that, they were invited to perform as a guest ensemble at the XVI International Percussion Festival “Percufest”, held in Valencia (Spain) in July 2017.

Arkeima Percussion Quartet is a versatile ensemble performing a wide repertoire in a range of styles. Current and future engagements include collaborations and concerts in Spain in service to the development and promotion of the ensemble.
