Lippens studied music theory, bass, accordion, piano, organ and guitar, both at the Ghent Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp . His study was frequently interrupted by performances of cabaret and popular music. He has performed with various ensembles and artists, there explored a variety of genres and styles, but in the meantime continued to study diligently.
As a music teacher, he worked at the Municipal Conservatory of Kortrijk and from 1965 as the guitar and harmony teacher at the Academy of Music and Drama in Eeklo. In 1980 he was appointed director of the music academy in Eeklo . In this position he remained until 1990. He was also the conductor of the symphony orchestra.
As a composer, he wrote works for guitar, piano, wind instruments, percussion, wind and orchestra.
