He holds a bachelor of music education degree from S.U.N.Y. Fredonia, a master of music in percussion performance from S.U.N.Y. Fredonia and Ithaca College, and a doctor of music in percussion pedagogy and performance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Heslink has been active in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association as a clinician and as chair of multicultural music for the PMEA executive board. His activities include many performances, adjudications, and guest appearances as a conductor, and his publications include many recital pieces and works for collegiate percussion ensembles. Dr. Heslink is creator and project director for Music As a Vehicle for Success, a grant-funded summer institute for musically gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He also maintained an active performance schedule with a number of Symphony Orchestras.
