Michiel Merkies (1961) had his first piano lessons at a music school at the age of nine. He developed a great interest in pop music and played in a variety of bands as a pianist, drummer, guitarist and bass player. This provided him with a wide knowledge of performance and composition of pop music in various styles. He studied school music at the Teaching Academy of Music in Leeuwarden and he took a practical course in keyboard/synthesizer at the conservatory in Enschede. Alongside teaching music (both pop workshops and general music) he is involved in developing teaching material for various instruments.
A collection of compositions in various contemporary pop styles. This book does not make many demands on technical ability, but in musical sense it is a challenge for the mallet player tp play the pieces in the proper way using the proper style.
